54 Dean Street is an Italian shop specializing in fly fishing, fly tying and fly-fishing equipment, based in Pianoro, near Bologna, Italy. It was founded by Alberto Calzolari, Marco Terzani and Umberto Oreglini, three fly fishermen and fly tiers with different experiences, skills and perspectives, united by the same idea: to offer products, equipment and materials that have real value for people who fish and tie flies. Our team was not created simply to sell fly-fishing products. 54 Dean Street was born from real experience on every sort of waters (rivers, lakes and saltwater), from tying flies, from studying the traditions of fly fishing and from constantly searching for reliable, well-made equipment and materials.

Like a Fly Shop from Another Time

There are two fly shops from the past that have inspired our dreams of fishing and fly tying. The first is Jim Deren's Angler's Roost, in 1950s New York, during what is remembered as one of the golden ages of American fly fishing.
The second is the exclusive shop of William Blacker at 54 Dean Street, in mid-19th-century London. These two places inspired us: Jim Deren's wisdom and practicality, and William Blacker's pursuit of quality and perfection. It was William Blacker and his historic London shop that also inspired the name 54 Dean Street. Although you are not walking the streets of New York or London, in our small Italian fly shop you will find the same idea: rather than getting lost among thousands of products, you can find a carefully selected range of fly-fishing equipment, materials and products chosen by people who actually use them.
